5-Hydroxy omeprazole standards
Omeprazole is primarily hydroxylated by CYP2C19 into 5-hydroxyomeprazole. 5-Hydroxy omeprazole retains the general structure of Omeprazole with an additional hydroxyl group on the pyridine ring, increasing its hydrophilicity. 5-Hydroxyomeprazole is an inactive metabolite, meaning it does not contribute to Omeprazole’s pharmacological effect of inhibiting stomach acid production. Its formation is a key step in Omeprazole clearance.
The enzyme CYP3A4 also contributes to metabolism but mainly by forming sulfone metabolites. Omeprazole sulfide and 5-Hydroxy Omeprazole sulfide are reported as metabolites and/or as potential impuritties in commercial preparations of Omeprazole. We will be happy to provide you 5-hydroxy omeprazole , 5-hydroxy omeprazole D3 and 5-Hydroxy Omeprazole sulfide as analytical standards for your studies.
